Svchost.exe high memory usage - wuauserv. Windows-7 memory windows-update memory-leaks svchost. Oliver Oliver. What do you mean memory leak.
Hello,
I need some support with an issue I have been having. I have a memory problem with svchost.exe, particularly the service it links to Sysmain -- Superfetch. In task manager, it often is the top memory hog when in idle with usage of over 50,000k. When running a game or chrome it goes up to over 100,000k and brings things to a crawl. If i end the process the system drastically speeds up. But, the problem returns. Sometimes it returns in a few minutes, sometimes it returns hours later.
How to set preview as default pdf viewer on safari. I did have a problem a few months ago with iWebar that got on my system but Norton got rid of it.
Windows Vista Virus Removal
I ran Norton 360, CCleaner, AdAware and Superantispyware and nothing more than cookies showed up.

Every time I appear to have a huge memory leak / svchost shows to be using between 600MB and 1.5 gb of RAM in taskmanager. In the meanwhile, having found the culprit service (Windows Update) if I disable the Windows update service, the svchost.exe memory drops to like 80mb and the system speeds up, as desired.
Now the question, how can I fix the Windows update service, what can be the cause, if this happens im not using Windows update and its just idling (not checking, or installing updates) the huge spikes usually happen from system start to service shutdown or a long time after bootup if i don't. I cannot enjoy speed on my Vista PC without having toggled the service off temporarily. Windows is up to date well with SP2 so it cant be a patch to mem leak i missed out on, either.
